Auburn's Cameron Toney transferring to UTC football program

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga added its fifth Football Bowl Subdivision transfer this offseason when former Auburn player Cameron Toney announced Friday on his Instagram page his intention to use his final season of eligibility with the Mocs.

He plans to work on a master's degree in education at UTC.

The 6-foot-1, 243-pound linebacker, a three-star prospect coming out of high school in Huntsville, Ala., appeared in nine games in his four seasons at the Southeastern Conference school, compiling six tackles. His best game came in 2015 in his lone start at LSU, when he had three tackles.

He will bolster a group that is transitioning from two starting linebackers to four and having to replace a key player in the middle.

Toney joins former Arkansas fullback Chris Jones, former Arizona State defensive back Kareem Orr, Nevada defensive back Cameron Turner and Air Force athlete Gage Upshaw as players from high-major programs transferring to UTC this offseason.

Former Presbyterian and All-Big South running back Darrell Bridges also will play for the Mocs in 2017. He, Orr and Upshaw are from local high schools.
