Around the Region: Lookouts promote Andrew Zito to vice president

The Chattanooga Lookouts announced Thursday that they have promoted ticket partnership director Andrew Zito to vice president. The UCF graduate joined the club as a food and beverage associate in 2012, moved into group sales a year later and assumed his director position in 2015. He now will oversee the sales staff, assist in ballpark operations and serve as the reigning Southern League champions' liaison to the Minnesota Twins. "Andrew's hard work and dedicaton to the Lookouts and the Chattanooga community makes him a perfect fit to help lead this team as the vice president," president Rich Mozingo said in a team release. Said managing owner Jason Freier: "We will all continue to benefit from Andrew's passion, talent and energy."

Tennis

* Chattanooga's Wesley Cash and his doubles partner, Danny Waldman of Washington, D.C., lost 7-5, 6-4 to Glen Busby of Australia and Ross Persons of Houston in the ITF World men's 60s final Friday in Miami. Cash wound up 8-1 in the international competition the last two weeks, including 3-0 with Persons for the United States in the team event. He and Waldman were 4-1 together. In five appearances in ITF World individual tournaments, beginning in 2002, Cash has a gold medal, a bronze and now three silvers in doubles.

Soccer

* Sixth-ranked Lee University allowed no shots on goal Friday in defeating Florida Tech 2-0 in the NCAA Division II women's soccer regional at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Freshman Isabelle Berthoud scored in the 36th minute on a follow of Marissa Villafuerte's shot off the crossbar, and senior Summer Lanter netted her 18th goal of the season from a Kelsey Yoder assist at 85:58. Lee (17-4) faces host Nova Southeastern at 2 p.m. Sunday.

* Tennessee Wesleyan won its second Appalachian Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament in a row Friday with a 3-0 victory over Truett McConnell. AAC player of the year Nicole Broderick scored in the fifth and 73rd minutes and Hannah Dearing had the third goal for the Lady Bulldogs (13-4-2), who had a 10-0 scoring margin in their three tournament games. Broderick was the MVP with McKenna Loges, Jessica Young and Els Van Hooijdonk joining her from TWU on the all-tournament team. Bryan's Paige Klose and Ana Ramirez also made it.

Volleyball

* Berry College rallied to edge Covenant 3-2 in Atlanta and end the Lady Scots' 17-match win streak and their season in the second round of the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament Friday. The set scores were 18-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-10. Emily Hancock had 27 kills and 27 digs and Hannah Kate Thompson had 55 assists for Berry (30-6). For Covenant (25-8), Schuyler Moore had 37 assists, 13 digs and six aces, Hannah Harris 18 kills, Jessica Seehorn 11 kills and 14 digs and Ginny Moore and Hannah Stewart 22 digs each.

* UTC ended its regular season with a fourth consecutive loss Friday - 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 25-22) to Wofford. Ally Ford and Mikaela Gauthreaux had 13 and 11 kills, Lauren Greenspoon 29 assists and Megan Kaufman 23 digs for UTC (13-17, 6-10). Madison Bergren added 11 assists.

* Lee lost 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) at Gulf South leader West Florida (25-6, 15-0). Silvia Sartori and Bailey Kress had 11 and 10 kills for Lee (18-9, 9-6), while Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley had 18 and 17 assists and MaKayla Beebe had 14 digs.

Running

* Both UTC teams were 20th at the NCAA South Region cross country meet Friday at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Emily Poole was the Mocs' top finisher with a personal-best 21:03.2 for 37th place in the 6k.

Golf

* The team of Mike Nance of Calhoun and Scott Davenport of Marietta tied for third place at 11-under-par 205 in the 2017 Georgia Senior Four-Ball in Moultrie. Savannah's Jack Hall and Doug Hanzel three-peated as champions by edging Macon's Hal Johnson and Peter Persons in a playoff Friday after both pairs finished at 197. Summerville's Ronnie Cargle and Rome's Ladell Norton tied for fifth at 238 in the third flight.
