Lee women first, men second in Berry track meet

With six individual first-place finishes, 10 second places and 17 other top-five results, the Lee University outdoor track and field teams defeated all but the Emory men this past weekend at the Berry Field Day Invitational in Rome, Ga.

The meet included a few NCAA Division I schools as well as Division II and III and NAIA teams.

The Lady Flames were first out of 21 with Emory second, 148.5 points to 136.5, while Emory's men totaled 95.5 to Lee's 86. Shorter was third in each group. Covenant, Bryan and Sewanee were 16th, 18th and 19th in the men's standings.

Lee's Audrey Smith, Charlee Boxall and Blakely Moore finished 1-2-3 in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, with Dalton State's Noor Sabeeh fifth, and Boxall, Smith and Amy Carpenter were second through fourth in the 1500, where Covenant's Lilly Smith was ninth. Boxall was second also in the 800, with Smith fifth, and Lee's Emily Bulwada and Mikayla Beeler were third and fourth in the 400.

Becca Umbarger was third in the 5000, Lee teammate Jordan Allison was fourth in the 400 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles, Kiley Brock was sixth in the 200 and Allison, Beeler, Avery Truelove and Brock were fourth out of 16 teams in the 4x100 relay.

The Lady Flames excelled in field events, with Camilla Sims winning the hammer throw and finishing second in discus and third in shot put, Hannah Buttolph winning the high jump and Kendra Irvine taking second in pole vault. Autumn Meek was third in discus, Beeler was fourth in long jump, Faith Lewis was fourth in shot put and Alexis Stevens was fifth in javelin throw.

Covenant's Alexandra May was sixth in the 10k.

Lee twins Josiah and Justin Brooks were first and second in the men's 200, with Bryan's James Eliezer sixth and Covenant's William Bryan seventh, and Josiah Brooks was second with Eliezer seventh in the 100. Justin Brooks won the 400, the Flames' Thomas Kelton won the steeplechase, Harold Smith was second in the 800 and the 1500 and Josiah Brooks was second also in the long jump.

Lee's Evan Hansen was third in the high jump, and Derek Flatford was fifth in the 110 hurdles and long jump.

Covenant's Micaiah Allison finished third in the steeplechase, and Sewanee's Elijah Brooks-Davis was fourth in shot put.
