Signal girls win first state tennis title

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Signal Mountain girls claimed their first-ever state tennis championship Wednesday, defeating L&M Stem Academy 4-2 in the Small Class state championships at the Adams Tennis Center.

Grace Williams, Callie Mastin and Catherine Trombley took singles' wins for the Lady Eagles, the latter winning a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 match that gave Signal a 3-2 edge. Williams and Sarah Kate Bailey then finished the match off with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Chattanooga Christian girls' tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Knoxville Webb in the finals of the Division II-A division.

The win gave the Lady Spartans their ninth consecutive state championship, the top such streak in the state.

Lauren Yoon, Carina Dagotto, Audrey Yoon and Anna Wisniewski claimed singles wins for Webb.
