5-at-10: Mailbag on delays, best caddies and Rushmore of sports hair and TV/movie cars

Fore please, Jordan Spieth now driving.

From the "Talks too much" studios, tears in his eyes we guess it's in the hole.

Question for the bag: Which happens first: Danny Ferry gets his job back or the NFL releases its report on Deflategate? Seriously, what is taking so long for either of those? Which one are you more surprised hasn't been resolved by now?

Stewwie -

Great question, and you bring up a great point about Ferry. Dude has taken an indefinite leave since last September because of the racist remarks he made.

As for his GM job, without the controversy, Ferry would be getting serious consideration for NBA executive of the year considering the hire of Mike Budenholzer and a roster of pieces that have meshed to form a whole that is much better than the sum of its parts.

That said, we have not heard much about Ferry at all this year, and next to nothing since mid-February when former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young said Ferry should get his job back.

As for Deflategate, knowing the NFL's rope-a-dope M.O., we'd expect those results the Tuesday or Wednesday before the draft, but it sure feels like the league wants this whole thing to just go away doesn't it? Even Robert Kraft, the Patriots owner who demanded that his franchise should get an apology if no conspiracy was discovered, has been relatively quiet.

Not sure why either of these have taken this long to tell you the truth, but we'd say the Ferry complete vanishing is a little more shocking, especially considering the success the Hawks have enjoyed this year.

Dude has paid a lofty price from some bad word choices.

I read the 5-at-10 everyday and listen to you guys on the radio.

I heard you talking this week about Roscoe Coaltrain dying and saw this and thought you'd like it.

It's a list of the top 50 cars from TV and movies.

What's your Rushmore of movie/TV cars?

photo FILE - In this Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 file photo, actor Daniel Craig steps out of a sports car during the shooting of the latest James Bond movie "SPECTRE" in Rome. After surviving the Sony hack, production for the new James Bond thriller "SPECTRE" has moved to Rome, where crowds are lining up to catch a glimpse of 007 and the oldest Bond girl yet, 50-year-old Monica Bellucci. Daniel Craig and Bellucci have been seen around town in recent days as filming has taken them from the cobble-stoned streets of the historic center out to the Mussolini-era modern EUR neighborhood. The main thoroughfare of central Rome, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, was closed to traffic early Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, for a nighttime car chase scene featuring Bond's silver Aston Martin. Another chase took place along the tranquil bike path down on the banks of the Tiber River. City officials expect as much as 1 million euros in permit fees alone from the filming. Pete -

Thanks for that link, and yes we clicked through all of them. Man we hate slideshows. Can we just have the list please?

OK, No. 1 on their list fittingly is James Bond's Ashton Martin. And we'll roll all the Bond cars into one.

The General Lee cracks their top 10 and would be on our list, just for nostalgia sake and in honor of James Best (aka Roscoe) kicking the bucket this week. We'll also include the General's redneck movie brethren of the Bandit's Trans Am in "Smokey and the Bandit."

From there, it could be easy to pick any number of power cars or street racers from a slew of great movies, and we were tempted to put the Mustang Shelby that Nick Cage totals in "Gone in 60 Seconds."

But the final spot on our list will go to the Cameron Fry's dad's Ferrari that Ferris uses to pick up Sloan Peterson in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Thoughts?

    Rushmore of caddies!

    My choices:

    Bones (Phil M)

    Carl J (Ben C)

    Stevie ( Tiger, Adam)

    Fluff (Tiger, Jim)

Or mailbag question: Who would you want on your bag leading the final round of (Masters) or major by 1 stroke.

    RichJohn -

We would probably pick Bones to answer your question. He seems to have the perfect balance of encouragement and control.

Your list is a good one, but even as impressive as his resume would be, we're not putting Stevie on there because he's such a jackwagon.

And in truth, he's kind of got the Leo Mazzone theory in that he was holding the back for the best stretch of golf dominance ever. Was Stevie that good or was he riding a rocket? Was Leo great or was he just rocking on the bench and sending Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and Avery out there?

Let us think on our Rushmore, but the fact that Bones has helped a total head case like Mickelson get to five majors is quite an accomplishment.

For the mailbag...was Kentucky's loss in the semifinal a result of the SI cover jinx, overconfidence, youth, or the Badger's preparation and intensity? I'm not a fan of one and done, but if Coach Cal could keep the players for more than a season or two, it sure seems like their maturity and experience would be hard to beat in the later years. Also, if you have time, can Sergio ever win the Masters? Mrs Sportsfan and I have always followed his career, but he's let me down so many times, I quit picking him to win. Is his putting strong enough? Thanks.

    Sportsfan-

We'll go with the latter on your reasons for UK's loss. Wisconsin had prepared and worked and focused on a revenge battle with UK for a year. That preparation was evident and the intensity was palatable. Kudos to them.

The one-and-done method has been much-discussed, but there have really only been three championship teams in the last dozen years with one-and-done cores. UK in 2012, Duke on Monday and Carmelo's Syracuse team, which was kind of a hybrid really.

The rest are team that got hot at the right time or juggernauts like 2009 UNC.

Sergio doesn't believe he can win a major, so it's impossible to see any reason why anyone else should believe he can win one.

I was glad yo hear Troy Polamalu retired so that I won't have to see him in a Chargers jersey or a God forbid a Ravens jersey.

In his honor, can you do a Rushmore of famous hair in sports.

Thanks and love the 5-at-10 and Press Row -- keep up the good work.

photo FILE - In this Oct. 2, 2011, file photo, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, right, talks to strong safety Troy Polamalu during an NFL football game against the Houston Texans in Houston. Polamalu's iconic football career is over. (AP Photo/Eric Gay, File)

    Mike -

We concur that Troy Polamalu retiring a Steeler was the right move. That's how it should end.

Dude was a great player that truly altered the game and was a forerunner in the hybrid safety transition to a combo player that covered and supported the run. He has a strong case as a Hall of Famer and along with Ed Reed was the best safety of their generation.

Rushmore of famous sports hair, huh. OK, we're game.

We'll go Troy P, Dr. J's ABA 'fro, Fletch and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

    Whatcha got gang?

From a host of you on Twitter

Do you really think Tiger can win this week?/ Who did you pick?

photo Tiger Woods reacts to his shot on the 14th hole during the first round of the Masters golf tournament Thursday, April 9, 2015, in Augusta, Ga. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)

    Gang -

First, we picked Jason Day and liked the way he played Thursday. Side note: Press Row producer Wells Guthrie picked Jordan Spieth, so there's that. Press Row point guard David Paschall picked Henrik Stenson/Hans Gruber.

As for Tiger, well, we did not peg him as a potential winner, but we believed he would make the cut and potentially contend.

The way he played Thursday was fun to watch to tell you the truth, and it allowed us to see that maybe there's a light at the end of Tiger's troubled game.

Yes, he posted a 1-over 73 - nine shots back of first-round leader Jordan Spieth and even two back of 65-year-old age-defying Tom Watson - but the number was clouded with intrigue.

Tiger made two great bogeys - he scrambled for a strong 5 on No. 9 Thursday and made a tidy 4 aft dropping one in the water on 12 - and looked sharp on the par 5s.

Also, the chipping yips that had made him look more Cub than Tiger were noticeably absent.

We never said he would win, but his game looked more solid than it has in recent memory, and that's a victory for everyone involved in golf.
