Harris English's second Masters tournament will last twice as long as his first.

The former Baylor School and University of Georgia golfer shot a 1-over-par 73 Friday and has a 3-over 147 through two days, which has him tied for 33rd and headed for weekend play. English missed the cut in the 2014 Masters with a 6-over 150, but he handled Friday's windy conditions at Augusta National better than most.

"It feels awesome," English told the Athens Banner-Herald after finishing his round early Friday evening. "It's been hard out there just to stay patient. If it was consistent wind out there, it would be a lot easier. It's gusty and calms down for a few seconds and then picks back up.

"It's so hard to really trust your shot. You can hit the perfect one, and it will go 15 yards over the green or 15 yards short."

English birdied the first and third holes Friday to get to even par for the tournament but was 4 over before getting his third birdie of the day on the par-5 13th.

The 26-year-old becomes the first golfer with Chattanooga ties to make a Masters cut since Luke List, who played at Baylor and was at Vanderbilt University when he was 2 over through two rounds in the 2005 tournament. List finished with a 6-over 294.

"I'm making a lot of birdies, and I'm playing really good golf," English said. "I just have to minimize the three-putts. I know that is really hard to do, because if you hit it to the wrong part of the green, it's going to be an impossible two-putt."

English has a third-round pairing with Romain Langasque of France. They will tee off this morning at 11:20.
