Two from Chattanooga area will play for flight titles at women's state amateur

Cleveland Country Club's Danielle Bates and Kelsey Cassada will play for the title in their flights this morning in the Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship at Hillwood Country Club in Nashville. Bates will take on Erica Chappell - who's playing on her home course - for the first-flight championship, while Cassada faces Ally Smith of Clarksville's Swan Lake Golf Course in the third-flight final. Bates advanced with a 4 and 2 quarterfinal win against Chattanooga Golf and Country Club's Georgia McGravey on Thursday and a Friday semifinal victory against Angel Cropper, who forfeited. Cassada's path was a 6 and 4 quarterfinal win against Joanne Walker of The Club at Fairvue Plantation in Gallatin and a 5 and 4 semifinal triumph over Jennifer Beres of Temple Hills Country Club in Franklin. In championship flight competition at the Tennessee Golf Association tournament, former St. Andrew's-Sewanee School golfer Jenna Burris from Manchester and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfer Cris Perez earned top-eight finishes with their appearances in Friday's quarterfinals. Perez lost in 20 holes to 2015 finalist Katie Story from Dickson, and Burris fell 3 and 2 to Middle Tennessee State University teammate Lacie York of Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough. The title match pits Belle Meade Country Club's Alexandra Farnsworth against Nashville Golf & Athletic Club's Riley Rennell after Farnsworth beat York 3 and 1 and Rennell topped Story 6 and 5 on Friday.

- UTC football players Keionta Davis, Corey Levin and Lucas Webb were selected for Lindy's 2016 Preseason All-FCS honors, making the Mocs one of only two programs in the nation with that many players on the publication's team, according to a UTC release. Davis, a defensive lineman, and Levin, an offensive lineman, are entering their senior seasons. Webb is a defensive back who will be a junior. Lindy's also ranked the Mocs No. 11 in its preseason poll and picked them to win a fourth straight Southern Conference title. UTC kicks off the season Sept. 1 against Shorter at Finley Stadium.
