The Chattanooga Men's Metro golf tournament needed a mulligan in 2017.

The three-day competition at Black Creek was originally set for July 7-9. But because of frequent rainy days leading up to the tournament, it had to be postponed.

It's now scheduled to take place this weekend. Play is set to start this morning with first tee times at 8. The same starting time goes for Saturday and Sunday.

There were 123 golfers in the original field. Tournament director Mike Jenkins was able still to fill 117 spots for this weekend.

"It didn't really hurt us, as far as numbers," Jenkins said of the postponement. "There was really no controversy. People understood. Some people had to get out because they had conflicts with this weekend. They got a full refund. We were able to pick up some others. It all worked out fine."

Each entrant will play today and Saturday. There are 38 in the senior division and nine in the super senior division. Those championships will be decided Saturday.

The players in the open division with the 25 lowest scores, plus ties, will advance to Sunday's final round. The winner is expected to be crowned in the early afternoon.

There also will be a team competition today with 15 of the threesomes representing eight local courses. That's down from what would've been a tournament-record 20 had the event been held on its original dates. It's a low-ball format with the winning team earning the Harold Lane Memorial trophy, which is kept at the winners' clubhouse for a year.

The National Weather Service is predicting sunny skies Saturday and Sunday and temperatures in the 80s all three days. However, an 80 percent chance of rain is projected for today.

This afternoon's final tee times are scheduled at 3.

"We didn't move it three weeks ago because of the weather forecast on the weekend," Jenkins said. "It was all the rain prior to that caused us to have to move it, or we were going to run the risk of tearing up the golf course. Even if we get some rain (today), I don't think we'd have a day lost this weekend. We can do some shuffling."
