Dalton State women's golfers win Texas tournament

Tia Teiniketo was the medalist and Caroline Griffin a co-runner-up as the Dalton State College women's golf team won the Bellevue Spring Break Classic in San Antonio.

The Roadrunners, ranked second in the NAIA, compiled a final-round 292 for a 594 total and a 12-stroke win Saturday over fifth-ranked Texas Wesleyan in the 11-team event at Brackenridge Park Golf Course.

Teiniketo closed with a 1-under-par 70 and finished at 146 overall for a two-stroke victory over Griffin (73), Texas Wesleyan's Trudy Allen (76) and Wayland Baptist's Marina Gallegos (74).

Dalton State's Haejin Choe (76) tied for fifth at 149 and Isabel Rijos (75) shared 11th at 153 with scores counting toward the team total. Heather Nail (74) also competed for the Roadrunners and tied for 19th at 157.

Back from wrist surgery, the Roadrunners' Katie Dalton (76) played as an individual and also tied for fifth, while Dalton State's Hannah Gasaway (83) did the same and tied for 19th.

Flames in Valdosta

Lee University's men opened with a 10-over 298 and were tied with Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama for 15th after Sunday's opening round at the Southeastern Collegiate in Valdosta, Ga.

West Florida led with a team total of 277 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club - the Argonauts' Chandler Blanchet was first at 7-under 64, two shots ahead of three others - with Lander University two shots back in the 18-team event.

Lee's Dylan Lillard (72) was tied for 27th, with Corey Sheppard (73) tied for 33rd, Scott Odell (74) tied for 43rd and Evan Spence (79) tied for 80th. Brian Clark (80) also competed for the Flames and was tied for 86th.
