The Chattanooga Football Club will play an exhibition game against the under-23 team from D.C. United at Finley Stadium on July 23.
Last July, Chattanooga FC played the Major League Soccer team's U-20 squad at RFK Stadium in Washington, losing 3-0. Volkswagen is the primary sponsor for both clubs.
"These guys should be even better than the team we played last year, and it's great that we can get them to come to Chattanooga," CFC general manager Sean McDaniel said.
Chattanooga FC opens its season at home Saturday night against Jacksonville (Fla.) United. Along with its National Premier Soccer League Southeast Division slate, CFC's schedule now includes exhibitions against D.C. United and the U-20 squad of Mexican team Club de Futbol Monterrey.
In addition, later this month CFC will play in and host a qualifying regional in the U.S. Open Cup. McDaniel said the diverse, high-level schedule is a good recruiting tool for bringing in top athletes to play for CFC.
"The level of player is getting better each year, and one of the things that's attractive to them is the fact that we're participating in the Open Cup, that we are playing against Monterrey and D.C. United," he said. "That's why if you're a young, aspiring soccer professional, this is a great starting point."
