Lee three chosen NAIA All-America

Lee University senior guard Will Barnes is a 2013 NAIA Division I first-team basketball All-American, and teammate Jamorris Gaines was a third-team selection after helping lead the Flames to a 30-win season. Lee junior guard Hollie German from Polk County added a women's first-team All-America honor to her previous WBCA selection and her choice as NAIA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lady Flames teammate Jenna Adams from McMinn Central earned honorable mention for the national runners-up. Barnes led the Flames with 20 points a game. Gaines, a junior forward who joined the team at midseason, averaged 15. Last week, Tennessee Wesleyan senior point guard E'Jay Ward from Chattanooga was chosen an NAIA Division II third-team All-American with honorable mention for teammate Desmond Crisp.

Baseball

• Chattanooga State outfielder Casey Mannion from Atlanta was the TCCAA baseball player of the week and Cleveland State's Thomas Huddleston from Summertown, Tenn., was the pitcher of the week for their performances in league series last weekend, as chosen by www.tnbaseballreport.com. Mannion went 9-for-13 with a home run, a triple, three doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored as the Tigers went 2-1 at Roane State. Huddleston pitched a complete-game two-hitter with 10 groundouts as the Cougars won 2-0 in their finale at Dyersburg State. Now 13-11, they won 8-6 and lost 6-3 Tuesday at Georgia Perimeter.

• Tennessee Wesleyan's Jake Stone and Jarrod Jameson were the Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball player and pitcher of the week for games through Sunday. That was the second week in a row for TWC to sweep those awards, and the third consecutive Bulldog pitcher honoree. Stone batted .471 with three home runs, five doubles, seven RBIs and five runs scored as the team went 5-0, and Jameson pitched a one-hitter in a 5-1 win over Bryan.

• The Tennessee Temple University baseball team defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College 3-0 and 11-1 on Wednesday at AT&T Field. Pitcher Patrick Lycans struck out six and allowed four hits in the complete-game shutout. Dustin Crumley and Nico McElrath each had two hits in the win, and Sean Leitstein had two RBIs. In the second game Dylan Massengill picked up the pitching win for the Crusaders (12-10) with six strikeouts in six innings. Leitstein and Bradley Grant had two hits and an RBI, while Caine Elliot had an RBI single in the win.

Softball

• The UTC softball outfielder Stephanie Rieck had three hits - including her first career home run - and five RBIs as the Lady Mocs beat Murray State 5-4 in eight innings at Frost Stadium on Wednesday. Rieck's three-run shot in the sixth inning gave UTC its first lead of the game before Murray State score two runs in the seventh to force extra innings. In the eighth, Rieck's RBI single to score Tyler Templet with the winning run. The Lady Mocs will host Appalachian State in a three-game Southern Conference series Saturday and Sunday.

• The Lee softball team rose from 11th in the NAIA preseason rankings to No. 3 in the first regular-season poll this week. The Lady Flames lead six Southern States Athletic Conference teams in the top 25.

• Reinhardt's Maddie Monroe from Calhoun, Ga., was chosen AAC softball pitcher of the week for the second week in a row after recording four wins and a save in five appearances. She had a 0.35 ERA and 29 strikeouts and no walks in 20 innings, including a perfect game with eight strikeouts. She is 13-0 with a 0.90 ERA for the 24-3 Lady Eagles.

Tennis

• Manker Patten teaching pro Wesley Cash has won his first two doubles matches in the 55-and-over Austria Cup competition at the ITF Senior World Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey. He and Mark Vines of Lynchburg, Va., won 6-2, 6-1 over Poland's doubles pair in Tuesday's 3-0 win for the United States team, and Cash and Peter Markes of Austin, Texas, won 6-0, 6-1 Wednesday against Stephen Cargo and Sam Dean in a 3-0 defeat of New Zealand. Vines, who won four USTA national titles with Cash in 2012, and Sal Castillo of San Antonio won three-set singles matches.

Golf

• Led by a third-place even-par 144 from Notre Dame High School graduate Richard Powell, King College won the 14-team Barton Intercollegiate golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Wilson (N.C.) Country Club. Two King players tied for eighth.

• Bryan College's Carrilee Hiers was the AAC women's golfer of the week for last week, when she finished second at Christian Brothers' tournament with a 163 for 36 holes.
