Seven UTC soccer signees announced and other sports news

New University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer coach Gavin McKinney announced Thursday the additions of seven recruits in this month's signing period, all from Tennessee: Maddy Coleman from Scott County, Masey Fox from Greenback, Rachel Giampapa and Shelby Williams from University School of Jackson, Carolina Heavey from Germantown Houston and goalkeepers Katie Emig of Knoxville Bearden and Molli Miller of Maryville High. Emig is a junior transfer who played in 14 games in two seasons for Austin Peay and had a .706 save percentage. Miller sat out her junior year at Maryville with an injury but had 14 shutouts and allowed 0.8 goal per game last fall. She and Emig both played in Knoxville's FC Alliance club program, as did Fox, who scored more than 100 goals for Greenback in four years and also kicked for the football team when her twin brother got hurt in 2012, with 36-of-36 accuracy on extra points and field goals that included a 34-yarder. In addition to helping lead Scott County to two district titles and a region final, Coleman has a 3.8 grade point average and played five years for the Lexington (Ky.) Futbol Club. Heavey has played for the Lady Lobos Rush club in addition to being an all-state defender for Houston High. Another Lady Lobos Rush member, Giampapa was a five-year starter and four-time all-state player for USJ, which won two Division II-A state titles and added a runner-up finish in that time, and she also played basketball and softball. Williams, a defender, also was a five-year starter and was twice an all-state selection for USJ and played on two state championship teams with the Jackson Futbol Club.
