Covenant College junior softball player Morgan Lane from Chattanooga and Girls Preparatory School was the National Fastpitch Coaches Association national hitter of the week for NCAA Division III after going 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double, two walks, eight runs batted in and five runs scored in the Lady Scots' two wins over Agnes Scott -- their only games of the week. She already was announced as the USA South player of the week and is batting .550 for the season with 13 RBIs in six games.

Golf

* University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Liam Johnston from Scotland was chosen the Southern Conference men's golfer of the week after tying for second place at 1-under-par 143 (72-71) in the Davidson College Invitational. He shared runner-up status with younger Moc Andrew Weathers, but conference rules don't allow for co-nominees from a school and Johnston got the nomination as a senior.

* Baylor School junior Emily Javadi from Chattanooga and Baylor School was the Southern Athletic Association women's golfer of the week after her sixth-place finish at 153 in the Callaway Collegiate Classic.

Tennis

* Sewanee junior Lindsey Liles was the SAA women's tennis player of the week after going 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles against three nationally ranked teams in the ITA Indoor Nationals this past weekend. Liles is 8-1 in all matches this semester. Her doubles partner is Bronte Goodhue from GPS.

* The UTC women's tennis team lost for only the second time in nine matches in 2015 on Wednesday, 5-2 to visiting Middle Tennessee State. It was close. The Mocs took the doubles point and lost three three-set singles matches to the Blue Raiders (12-3). Kaylene Chadwell won in three sets at No. 3.

Basketball

* Dalton State won the Southern States Athletic Association men's basketball regular season in its first year in the league this season, and the Roadrunners go into their league tournament opening game tonight against Brewton-Parker with a No. 5 ranking in NAIA Division I and with the SSAC coach and player of the year. Tony Ingle and 6-foot-10 senior Ladaris Green took those honors Wednesday night, and senior point guard Sean Tate joined Green on the All-SSAC first team with senior Preston Earle and junior Jordan Bowling on the second team. Green is No. 2 in the NAIA with 11.86 rebounds a game.

* Appalachian Athletic Conference champion Tennessee Wesleyan is No. 8 in the final NAIA Division II women's basketball poll and will open play next Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. EDT in the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, as its bracket's No. 2 seed against Southeastern (Fla.). AAC regular-season runner-up Bryan will play Thursday at 2:45 against Concordia (Neb.), the top seed in their bracket. TWC's Jenna Adams, the AAC player of the year, was the Tennessee Sports Writers Association player of the week after averaging 21 points and 7.3 rebounds as MVP of the league tournament.

* Cory Billingsley made 10 of 11 free throws and scored 26 points as Lee University beat visiting Hiwassee 90-65 on Wednesday in the game that decided the Mid-East Region representative in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I men's basketball tournament March 18-21 at Winona Lake, Ind. Jervon Johnson hit six of nine 3-point shots and scored 23 points for Lee (17-12), while Chase Cullen had 11 points and nine rebounds, Cody Farley grabbed 10 rebounds and Stedmon Ford had four assists. Jeff Golden and Anthony Calloway scored 10 points each for Hiwassee (10-19). Lee is hosting the Mid-East women's semifinals tonight and the final on Friday.

* Jamesha Mosley scored 29 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line as No. 2 seed Cleveland State defeated Dyersburg State's women 82-68 Wednesday in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII basketball tournament at Memphis. Ny'Asia Holmes had 10 points and eight rebounds and Brandi Whitted had nine points and nine rebounds for the Lady Cougars (16-10), who will play again Friday at 5 p.m. EST. The Cleveland State men play tonight at 7 against Motlow after beating Volunteer State 86-64 in Tuesday's late game behind 26 points from Darrion Leslie and 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists from Rico Overall. The Chattanooga State men open tourney play today at 5 against Walters State.
