Hosack joins UTC softball staff from Baylor University and other sports news

Former Baylor University catcher and student assistant coach Clare Hosack has joined the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball staff as an assistant coach. UTC coach Frank Reed announced the hiring Friday, noting that Hosack will be working with the Mocs' catchers and outfielders. Baylor reached the Women's College World Series semifinals in her freshman and senior seasons. She played in 48 games as a freshman in 2011, starting 45, and hit six home runs. In 2012 she led the Bears with 20 RBIs and six multi-RBI games and threw out six runners in 22 chances, with four pickoffs, and she had a .533 slugging percentage and scored 33 runs as a senior. This past season when she was on coach Glen Moore's staff, Baylor was 41-17 and again went to the WCWS. "Coach Moore, a personal friend of mine, recommended Clare," Reed said in a UTC release. "I have a lot of confidence in him, and we are a lot alike in the way we coach and approach the game. He told me she's a great person and a hard worker." The Mocs will face Cleveland State in their first fall-season scrimmage today at 11 a.m. at Jim Frost Stadium.
