Leo Born and Reggie Upshaw combined for 15 first-period points as Baylor soared to a 24-10 lead on its way to a 61-46 win Friday in the boys' third-place game of the Times Free Press Best of Preps Tournament at Arts & Sciences.

Jeff Bowens led the Red Raiders (3-3) with 17 points, 10 coming in the final period, while Upshaw finished with 15 and Born with 12. Xavier Cummings topped Red Bank (5-7) with 12 points, Fred Matthews adding 10.

In the girls' third-place game, Baylor overcame a sloppy first half to pull away for a 44-35 win over Chattanooga Christian. Amber Howard scored seven of her 14 points in the third period as the Lady Red Raiders (5-4) turned around a 23-18 halftime deficit. Mary Ellen Williams had five of her 14 points in the final period for the winners, while Meg Sabourin topped CCS (3-8) with 11 points.

East Hamilton topped Northwest Whitfield, 48-39, in the girls' fifth-place game as Tiffany Lewis scored 23 points. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe defeated Tyner 51-44 in the seventh-place game behind Jessica White's 22 points.

District 5-AAA rivals Ooltewah and Cleveland elected to play their junior varsity teams in the boys' fifth-place game, with Ooltewah coming out on top, 54-49. Host Arts & Sciences claimed seventh place with a 57-50 win over Notre Dame as Patrick Taylor and Frank Brogdon scored 15 points each and JaVaughn Craig scored all seven of his points in the decisive final period.
