Led by hot-shooting Donovan Jones, the Chattanooga Patriots rolled past Red Bank, 68-41, in the consolation round of the Best of Preps basketball tournament at Chattanooga State pm Friday.
The home-schooled Patriots (7-8) shot a sizzling 65 percent in building a 40-17 halftime lead and cruised from there. Jones led the winners with 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting, with John Truax adding 12 and Aaron Ambrosetti 10. For Red Bank (3-10), which shot under 30 percent for the game, Fred Matthews had eight points and 10 rebounds and Will Davis scored 11 points.
• East Hamilton girls 62, Arts & Sciences 31: The Lady Hurricanes (6-6) broke open a two-point game after the first period with a strong defensive effort in the second, then stretched an eight-point lead to double digits early in the second half.
East Hamilton, led by Lexi Zuckery's 13 points and eight rebounds, forced 24 CSAS turnovers and held the Lady Patriots to 29 percent shooting in the second half. Juliette Harp added 12 points for the winners, while Jessica Caudle had 10 points and six steals.
• Silverdale Baptist Academy girls 49, Brainerd 38: Mariah Massengill scored 21 points and handed out six assists as the Lady Seahawks (8-4) rolled. Silverdale built a 28-12 halftime lead behind Massengill and a defense limited Brainerd (4-7) to 3-for-24 shooting. Jamee Walker topped Brainerd with 21 points.
• Boyd-Buchanan 70, North Jackson 47: Justus McMillan and Austin Walker combined for 40 points as the Bucs (8-5), who led 24-8 after the first period, had little trouble with the Chiefs (2-11). McMillan led the Bucs with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Walker added 18 points and Hall Allen chipped in 15.
