Just before McCallie's annual two-week football camp, Blue Tornado coach Ralph Potter didn't know who his quarterback was going to be. It was later in preparations than he'd ever been without settling on his field general.

It looks like he has put that concern to rest, taking the wraps off sophomore JaVaughn Craig in a 7-0 Best of Preps Jamboree victory over touted Signal Mountain on Friday at Finley Stadium.

"For right now he is [the quarterback]. He's only been there a couple of weeks, but he has great instincts," Potter said after Craig gained 34 yards in three carries and completed three passes for another 19 yards.

It was called back, but Craig also had a 69-yard scoring run on an option keeper.

The Blue Tornado running game is intact, too, with senior Andrew Busby and other options.

"Andrew has probably got better eyes than anybody, and he's real strong," Potter said. "Paul Silverblatt's a junior and he's done well, and Alex Trotter has been hurt and came back yesterday. We can rest Busby [also a linebacker], but he's better on both sides than what else we've got."

Silverblatt scored the matchup's only TD on a 27-yard run.

Signal Mountain, coming off a Thursday scrimmage win over 2012 Georgia AAAA runner-up Ridgeland, threatened on its opening drive, reaching McCallie's 20, but was turned away on a fourth-and-1.

"I thought we played well. We just did basic stuff. I'm sure McCallie did, too," Eagles coach Bill Price said. "I thought we moved the ball well, although we didn't convert down there early."
