Florida native Ty Wise has been named successor to Bill Price as the football coach at Signal Mountain.

A former player (center) at the University of Miami, Wise spent several seasons in the professional ranks including stops at Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.

Wise most recently coached at Graceville High in Graceville, Fla. Where he led the team into the playoffs last year, his second at the school. He also has coached at Northview High, Alma Bryant and Booker T. Washington.

Former Miami and Cleveland Browns coach Butch Davis was among those attesting to Wise's character and playing ability.

"Ty is the full package; great experience as a student-athlete and professional athlete; phenomenal character, work ethic and more," Davis said.

During his time at Miami, the Hurricanes won two Big East championships and was a first-team All-American and also one of the team's captains.

Price started the football program at Signal but chose recently to resign and enter private business after a 30-year coaching career.
