Dattilo, Lype district tennis champions

East Hamilton's Hannah Dattilo and Ooltewah's Braden Lype, the top seeds entering the District 5-AAA individual tennis tournament, held those seeds and claimed district championships Tuesday at Ooltewah High School.

Dattilo defeated Soddy-Daisy's Adriana Peckinpaugh in straight sets, while Lype needed three sets to beat Walker Valley's Nolan Cawood.

The team champions -- Soddy-Daisy's girls and Cleveland's boys -- showed their strength in doubles. The Lady Trojans' Olivia Crawley and Chloe Mitchell beat Cleveland's Heidi Barringer and Maddie Ohlsson in straight sets, and the Blue Raiders' Jake Gibson and Shivang Patel won an all-Cleveland final.

Finalists qualify for the Region 3-AAA tournament next week.

* District 5-A/AA: Collegedale Academy's boys and Boyd-Buchanan's girls were No. 2 seeds but finished first in the team tournament.

Collegedale's Eagles defeated Silverdale Baptist Academy 4-2. Colton Lang, Brady Tull and Casey Tull had singles victories, and Brady Tull teamed with Ivan Snyder for a clinching doubles victory.

The Lady Bucs didn't even let their match advance to the doubles round, taking a 4-1 win with Katie Delay, Makenna Thomas, Christina Amos and Libby Reynolds prevailing in singles.
