There haven't been many afternoons better than Monday's for the Notre Dame High School tennis program.

The Irish boys swept the singles and doubles individual titles and the Lady Irish won in doubles in the Region 4-A/AA tournament at the Champions Club. All champions advance to the state individual tournament in Murfreesboro next week.

Central Magnet's Jordan Berrios defeated Notre Dame's Bowie Strozak 6-2, 6-1 in the girls' singles final.

The Notre Dame girls will face Boyd-Buchanan on Thursday at the Brainerd recreation courts for a spot in the A/AA state team tournament, also next week in Murfreesboro.

Despite a couple of lightning delays that slowed play, Notre Dame's Charles Jabaley was crisp in taking the singles title, defeating Macon County's John Griffith 6-0, 6-2. He was the first Notre Dame player off the court.

A season ago, Jabaley partnered with J.R. Davis in winning the state doubles title. This season he made the choice to transition to singles.

"I'm excited. It's been my goal all year to advance to state in singles," Jabaley said. "Now that I'm past the region tournament, I can finally think about state without feeling like I'm looking ahead."

Next up was Sarah Joyce and Sarah Faith Ingall, who cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Macon County's Lou Phillips and Kylie Scruggs.

"Today was weird because of the weather," Joyce said. "We just had to try to concentrate. We didn't go inside much in between delays because we didn't want to cool off."

The third and final group of Notre Dame champions came as Davis and Andrew Lisy defeated Signal Mountain's Jacob Morris and Luke Blentlinger 6-2, 7-5.

"It's awesome to be back in the state tournament," Davis said. "Today was tough, because the weather didn't allow us to get into much of a rhythm because we were always on and off the court, but it's great to get the win."
