Cordova beats Walker Valley in state basketball tournament

MURFREESBORO - Playing in a state tournament can be a nerve-wracking, pulse-racing experience for a high school basketball team. But Cordova made it look like a walk in the park Wednesday.

The Wolves advanced to the TSSAA Class AAA boys' semifinals for the first time in school history, taking control early to defeat Walker Valley 79-58 in the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University.

Cordova (29-3) will face Station Camp (35-1) in Friday's semifinals at MTSU.

Class AAA

- Van Buren County 64, Knoxville Grace 60: Van Buren County, which led 29-24 at halftime, edged its way to a quarterfinal victory Wednesday night and moved on to a Friday semifinal against Booker T. Washington.

Caden Mills poured in 27 points for Van Buren (28-5), making 12 of 15 free throws and 3 of 7 attempts from beyond the 3-point line, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead his team. Drew Roberts added 18 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Knoxville Grace finished the season with a 22-12 record.

Booker T. Washington (30-5) won 63-51 against Nashville Christian (22-9) on Wednesday.
