McCallie soccer standout Drew Viscomi committed to Northwestern last spring and signed this week with the Big Ten school.

"He's phenomenal - as good a person as he is player and student," Blue Tornado coach Chris Cushenbery said. "He maintains a 4.0 (GPA) in college prep classes at a tough prep school. Yet he is so committed to McCallie soccer and he is always willing to help our younger players."

Already a two-time all-state player, Viscomi was an All-America pick last season, when he set McCallie's single-season scoring record with 30 goals.

Lanter link to Lee

Soddy-Daisy's Lanter link will come to a close when Anna Lanter graduates and follows in the footsteps of elder sisters Clair and Summer as a Lee University soccer player. Her signing with Lee was announced Thursday.

"Anna did anything and everything asked of her the four years she played at Soddy-Daisy," Lady Trojans coach Moises Drumond said. "She played every position except goalie, and she would have done that as well had I needed her to."

Lanter was the District 5-AAA defensive MVP in 2016 and a two-time all-state player.

"The team was always more important to her than personal statistics," Drumond said.

Irish trio moving on

Notre Dame basketball player Balla Bombassi and soccer standout Meagan Eiselstein will be continuing their athletic careers at Maryville College, while Kelsey Barta will play soccer for Berry.

Bombassi also was a football cheerleader for three seasons and an Irish bowler for one year. She has served as a volunteer at Erlanger hospital, the Creative Discovery Museum and St. Jude.

Eiselstein was a four-year soccer starter and served as captain this past season. A member of the National Honor Society, she has been a wrestling team manager for three seasons and has served as a volunteer at the Community Kitchen, the Chattanooga Ironman competition and the county fair.

Barta also was a soccer captain and four-year starter. A Furman and Wofford Scholar Award winner, she has logged more than 600 volunteer hours in summer camps.
