Tyner Rams dominate East Hamilton, 49-0

If perfect games could be scored in football, then Tyner's 49-0 home win over Class 4A East Hamilton on Friday night would go down in the books as such.

From the first play from scrimmage to the last, the Rams dominated all aspects of the game in their fourth consecutive win.

"We were excellent on all sides, and it seemed like nearly everyone we put in the game was ready to step up and make a play," Tyner coach Wayne Turner said. "We avoided the penalties and mistakes that have cost us some wins this season. And we learned we're a pretty good team when we can avoid those things."

The Rams hung 42 points on the Hurricanes by halftime.

Tyner's defense made the first mark in the game. Starting quarterback and safety Jaylen Bowers intercepted East Hamilton counterpart Jared Price, and after a short run on the next play, Tyner's Jeremy Elston rumbled into the end zone from 17 yards out for the game's first score.

Tyner (4-2) ran 28 times during the game for 115 yards, and four Rams recorded rushing touchdowns. Following Elston were Tyon Young, Ke'un Webb and James Parks. In addition to the interception, Bowers completed three passes for two scores, to Jeremiah Batiste and Aubrillius Martin, and captained a defense that held the Hurricanes to 33 yards of total offense.

"It's been simple," Bowers said of the Rams' winning streak. "The coaches are calling the right plays and we keep doing the right thing. Our goal is to go undefeated the rest of the way into the playoffs, and we're just a step closer to doing that now."

The Hurricanes endured their fifth straight defeat since their season-opening win over Signal Mountain. Their next four games will all be within Region 2-4A, beginning with next week's matchup at Sequoyah.

"I've known Coach (Ted) Gatewood for a long time and we have a lot of respect for each other," Turner said. "I know we've both been on the opposite ends of games like this, so we both know what it's like and what has to be done to be a good football team."

The Rams will play a Region 3-2A game next Friday at Bledsoe County.
