Smokies edge visiting Lookouts 3-2

KODAK, Tenn.-The Chattanooga Lookouts opened their Southern League baseball series against the Tennessee Smokies with a 3-2 loss Friday night.

Tennessee's Logan Watkins doubled to left field and scored on a one-out single to left by Mark Burgess in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie.

Chattanooga (7-9) was held hitless until the fifth inning, when J.T. Wise and Blake Smith opened with singles and scored on Griff Erickson's two-out single to left that put the Lookouts up 2-0. Chris Withrow made his first start of the season and worked into the fifth inning, allowing one run.

Game two of a five-game series is tonight at 6:15. Allen Webster (1-2, 4.70 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Nick Struck (1-1, 2.65) scheduled for the Smokies.

Withrow was activated Friday afternoon. Relief pitcher Jon Michael Redding was sent down to high Single-A Rancho Cucamonga.
