Lookouts' winning streak ends at seven games

Jacksonville starting pitcher Jeff Brigham settled down after a shaky first couple of innings Friday night at AT&T Field, and Brigham and the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen shut down the Chattanooga Lookouts' bid for an eighth consecutive victory.

Eric Jagielo's solo home run with one out in the fourth put the visitors up for good as Jacksonville went on to win 5-1 against the light-hitting Lookouts.

Chattanooga, which hadn't lost since falling 3-0 at Pensacola on April 12, started well Friday as Lamonte Wade led off the bottom of the first with a single - before getting caught attempting to steal second - and Brent Rooker slugged a triple to center field. Rooker scored on Nick Gordon's sacrifice fly to center, and T.J. White followed with a walk, but Brigham coaxed a groundout to the middle of the infield to escape further damage.

An error, hit batter and wild pitch made for a rough start to the second inning for the Jumbo Shrimp, but that was where their trouble ended. The Lookouts finished with five hits, stymied by relievers Jose Quijada and Jeff Kinley after Brigham (3-0) exited after the fifth.

Lookouts starter Lewis Thorpe (0-2) struck out eight and walked none but gave up four earned runs on six hits, including two homers.

Chattanooga starts a five-game road series against the Jackson Generals tonight at 7:05 EDT. Kohl Stewart (2-0, 3.48) is the scheduled starter for the Lookouts, with Jackson's starter not yet announced.
