Coming off an overtime win over fifth-ranked Thomas Gilman of Iowa, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior 125-pounder Sean Boyle moved into the top eight in the latest national rankings by Amateur Wrestling News. Boyle improved to 27-5 on the season with his Sunday win at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville as the Mocs clinched their third straight Southern Conference championship.

Track & Field

* Lee University's track and field teams both finished eighth in the National Christian College Athletic Association indoor national meet this past weekend at Cedarville, Ohio, but seven Lee athletes were All-Americans for third-place or better finishes. The Lady Flames' Adrian Martin was the national champion in the women's 55- and 200-meter dashes -- with a meet record of 7.02 seconds and a 25.51 -- and Emmanuel Kipchumba won the men's 800 in 1:58.20 and anchored the third-place 4x400 relay team that also included Harold Smith, Justin Knuth and Adam Gullette. Rick Barry was third in the long jump, and Moneque Beckford was third in the women's 400. The Lady Flames got fifth places from Emily Bryan in the pentathlon and Jessica Childers in the mile run, and Elizabeth Sillcocks was sixth in the 5000. Joseph Crook was fifth with Smith seventh in the men's mile.

Softball

* The UTC softball team swept the Southern Conference weekly awards Monday with senior Nicole Osterman being named player of the week and freshman Cori Jennings earning pitching honors. In the Mocs' 5-0 run through the South Alabama Invitational, Osterman went 9-for-17 with four home runs, seven runs scored and 14 RBIs. She scored two of UTC's runs and hit one of her weekend homers in the Mocs' win over No. 22 South Alabama. Jennings went 3-0 in the Mobile tournament with a 1.88 ERA in 18 2/3 innings. She had 14 strikeouts in four appearances.

* Lee University's scheduled softball series finale Monday at Alabama-Huntsville was canceled.

Basketball

* The Tennessee Temple women's basketball team won for the fourth time in a row Monday, 83-57 against visiting Hiwassee, but Hiwassee won the men's game 82-76 and ended the Crusaders' season at 8-20. Jeff Golden had 19 points and seven blocked shots for Hiwassee, which got double-figure scoring also from Joel Bailey, Kaseen Davidson and Chris Sumpter. Julian Butts had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Temple, which got 14 points from Bryan Jones and 13 from Terrance Scales. Amanda Rector and Christiana Purvis scored 24 and 20 points for the Lady Crusaders (14-15), who will take part in the NCCAA postseason, while Kirsten Fowler had 14 assists, 11 rebounds and six steals, Angel Foster provided 16 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks and Sloane Woodard had 11 points and eight rebounds.

* Nationally 10th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan is seeded first and Bryan College is seeded second in the women's portion of the Appalachian Athletic Conference basketball tournament that starts Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn. TWC's Lady Bulldogs (25-3) face the Wednesday winner between St. Andrews and Columbia at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and Bryan (21-7) will take on Milligan or Truett-McConnell at 3:30 p.m. Bryan and TWC finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the men's standings at 9-9, and the Lions (15-12) are the fifth seed playing No. 4 Reinhardt at 1:45 Thursday with No. 6 Wesleyan (15-13) meeting Truett-McConnell at 9:15.

Baseball

* The Cleveland State baseball team won 4-2 and lost 10-8 Monday in Demorest, Ga., against the Piedmont junior varsity (8-1), which plays today at Chattanooga State. Caleb Longley was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Chris Caffrey doubled twice and scored a run as six pitchers combined on a four-hitter in the first game for the Cougars (7-2). Wright Hackett was 3-for-5 and scored three runs in their loss, when Longley was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Cole Baxley also batted in three.

* Reinhardt University defeated visiting Tennessee Temple 13-0 in baseball Monday.
