* Girls Preparatory School senior attack player Alex George signed a letter of intent Tuesday to continue her lacrosse career at Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky. She will join a program beginning its inaugural season on Feb. 13 under former Baylor School assistant coach Rich Manieri. His daughter Rachel and Erin Garmany from Baylor are on the entirely freshman 2014 roster, and GPS's George helps continue his successful nationwide search for "the best high school players and people" interested in the all-around-student emphasis. "She's such a hard worker and such a thoughtful and intelligent person," Coach Manieri said, "... she's going to be a positive contributor to our program and to the Asbury community." George's mother and grandmother attended Asbury, and Alex has visited the campus "off and on" all her life, but she also had recruiting conversations with Gardner-Webb and Furman. Manieri said he began recruiting her soon after getting the Asbury job. "She's a terrific player and student and a true leader," he said ahead of his visit to GPS on Tuesday, and he praised the Bruisers program and the "great job" done by GPS coach Caroline Carlin. "We are thrilled for Alex as she takes this next step in her lacrosse career," Carlin said. "Each season she dedicates herself to performing her best and achieving her individual goals and contributing to the team's goals. Most recently, Alex's ability to score goals around the crease helped us achieve our most successful record to date."
