Two runners in Saturday's Cameron Bean Memorial 5K finished in less than 15 minutes. Christian Thompson of Chattanooga and Brandon Hudgins of Boone, N.C. completed the course in 14:54 and 14:58, respectively. Joanna Thompson of Blowing Rock, N.C. was the first female finisher, with a time of 18:05. A total of 618 people participated in the inaugural event that honored the memory of Bean, a Baylor School graduate who died after he was struck by a motorist while running on Moccasin Bend Road last year. The race took runners past the spot where Bean was struck. Thompson and Hudgins have each trained with Zap Fitness, the Lenoir, N.C., outfit that Bean ran for when he rose to 10th nationally in the steeplechase. The top 25 male and female finishers earned a spot in Saturday evening's Magnum Mile, which was held during the River Gorge Omnium criterium cycling races downtown. Hudgins won the Magnum Mile with a time of 4:17.7, just three seconds faster than Thompson and Chris Moen.
