VW's U.S. sales jump in July

Volkswagen of America Inc. on Tuesday reported July sales rose 16 percent over the same month a year ago.

Mark Barnes, interim president of Volkswagen of America, said sales "provided another solid step in the right direction for our growth strategy."

VW sold 23,880 total units in July for its 13th consecutive month of sales growth. Year-to-date, Volkswagen's sales have risen 27.5 percent, according to the company.

With the exception of last August's "cash for clunkers" sales, July marked the best sales month for Volkswagen of America since December 2005.
