Volkswagen of America today reported that July sales of 28,758 vehicles fell 8.12 percent over the same month last year.
Sales of the Chattanooga-made Passat of 6,549 dropped 5.1 percent last month compared to July 2015, the company said.
However, the Tiguan, VW's small sport utility vehicle, had its best-ever July at 3,379 units, up 48.4 percent. Also, the VW Golf GTI posted a 35.8 percent increase in sales to 2,417.
Through July, VW's U.S. sales are at 177,772, down 13.59 percent, according to the company.
