Odus Sweetin

Odus Sweetin, 63 years young, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, after a battle with cancer.He was the owner of Sweetin Construction Co., member of the Home Builders Association of Southern Tennessee, and served as President of their Remodelers Council where his leadership initiatives contributed to increased employment for approximately 330 Chattanooga Home Remodeler members over several years earning him the 2000 Remodeler of the Year, 2001 Builder of the Year and 2003 Outstanding Service Award. During his Presidency, the Remodelers Council voluntarily assisted the Ronald McDonald House and Siskin Rehab at Erlanger. When admitted to the Erlanger Oncology Unit, administrative personnel remembered his good deeds. His family members and friends remain forever grateful for the excellence in medical care provided by the Erlanger Oncology unit, the Memorial Hospital staff, and the kind and loving care of his final two days at the Healthcare Center at Standifer Place.He loved talking with everyone, being a novice gourmet cook, and sharing his fare with friends.He leaves behind best friend, Judy Bryan and her granddaughter, Judith Bryan. He loved his friends, Michael Maramas (who walked through the recent deep snow several miles repeatedly to care for Odus), Charlie Elliot, Pamela Haynes, Norm Hawk and many other friends, here and via the internet all over the world.Odus was the son of Ray (deceased) and Eileen Sweetin, Benton, Ill.; brother of Vernon (Karole) Sweetin, Benton, Ill, and their children, Jeff and Julie, St. Louis; his only son was Bryan Sweetin (Brenda); grandchildren, Ian and Emily Sweetin, Chattanooga.He will be sadly missed by those who loved him.Visitation will be at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home, Benton, Ill., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.
