Robert Wysong

ROME U.S. Air Force MSgt. (retired) Robert Frederick Wysong, 68, passed away Wednesday morning, April 11, 2012, in a local hospital.Mr. Wysong was born July 21, 1943, son of the late Robert Wysong and the late Elmo Moler Wysong. He was a graduate of Logansport High School. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after more than 22 years of service. During his military tenure, he graduated from the Community College of the Air Force. He served as the superintendent of the largest strategic command and control facility in the Pacific. His duties included coordinating the planning, execution, and evaluation phases of all force/staff operations from headquarters to the unit level. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He, along with his wife, operated the 19th Hole Restaurant at Stonebridge Golf Course and had also operated the Forrest Coffee Shop in the Forrest Building on Broad Street.Survivors include his wife and best friend, the former Linda Perry, to whom he was married, Oct. 22, 1994; a daughter, Stacey Wysong, and her fianc, Ryan McCray, Chattanooga; a great-granddaughter, whom he lovingly was helping to raise, Abby Wheat, Rome; three stepsons, Billy, Keith and Chuck Dupree, all of Rome; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; several cousins and friends in Indiana also survive.Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. Ken Oates and the Rev. Max Carver will officiate.Entombment will follow in St. Luke's Mausoleum at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Military personnel from Robbins Air Force Base will provide full military honors.The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. today. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
