Donald Guffey

Chief Donald W. Guffey, 67, retired United States Navy of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Vitas Hospice Center in Houston. Mr. Guffey grew up in Soddy-Daisy and was the son of Jesse and May Guffey.After retiring from the Navy he moved his family to Houston where they have lived for the past 28 years. He also retired from the Baylor College of Medicine in 2011.Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nancy Guffey, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Shelia (Jerry) Howell, of Houston; son, Danny (Barbara) Guffey, of Richmond, Texas; grandsons, Corey Wilson, of Houston, and Daniel Bunnell, of Richmond, Texas; brothers, Kenneth (Jewell) Guffey, of Soddy-Daisy and Doug (Donna) Guffey, of Hixson; half brothers, Adrian, David and Johnny Guffey, all of Soddy-Daisy; half sister, Judy Guffey, of Soddy-Daisy; much loved brother-in-law, Jackie (Betty) Smith, of Soddy-Daisy.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Melvin Walker officiating.
