Margaret Dillender

Margaret S. "Polly" Dillender, of Signal Mountain, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Alexian Nursing Home.She was born Aug. 16, 1929 in Dade City, Fla., to William P and Margaret Stevens. The family moved to Augusta, Ga., during World War II where she attended high school. From there, she attended The University of Alabama. After graduation, she returned to Augusta where she met Dick Dillender, and married him in 1951.In 1954 they moved to Chattanooga and to Signal Mountain the following year.She was an ardent golfer for a number of years but later took up tennis, which she enjoyed equally as much. She was a member of St. Timothys Episcopal Church since 1955.She is survived by Dick Dillender, her husband of 61 years; three children, Becky (Ward) Gossett, David (Patti) Dillender and Teke Dillender; seven grandchildren, Jeni (Dickie) Sompayrac, Josh Gossett, Haleigh (Marshall) Zealy, Ila and Maury Dillender, Will and Vaughn Dillender-Kinast; and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Sam and Ben Sompayrac.The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff of Alexian Nursing Home and Caris Healthcare Hospice for the tender, loving care shown Polly and her family during her stay there.Funeral services will held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 at St. Timothys Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association, 4825 Trousdale Drive, Ste. 220, Nashville, TN 37220, or Caris Healthcare Hospice, 5959 Shallowford Road, Ste. 551, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to a charity of your chose.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and again following the service on Thursday at the church.Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
