Lanier Cain

SAVANNAH Lanier Cain, 83, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing Home in Savannah, Ga.Mr. Cain was born Dec. 24, 1928 in Hall County, Ga. to the late Jeff Cain and Lila Collins Cain. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School and received his BS in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and served as 2nd Lt. during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a retail manager for the J.C. Penney Co. for many years before retiring.He was a long time resident of Chattanooga, Tenn., where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and leader at Brainerd Baptist Church. At his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Winder Ga. He remained active in his church and in his community until the time of his illness.Mr. Cain was preceded in death by an infant son Lanier Cain, Jr.; 3 brothers, L.K. Cain, Jeff Cain, and Leroy Cain; 2 sisters, Maurine McNeal and Montine Fields.He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Chandler Cain; a son, Hamilton (Ellen Goldstein) Cain, Brooklyn, N.Y. and daughter, Char-La (Cavin) Fowler, Savannah, Ga.; 5 grandsons, Owen, Nathaniel, and Peter Cain, Richard and Henry Fowler; and 2 granddaughters, Chandler Fowler and Collins Fowler; 2 brothers, Lyndol (Trudy) Cain, of Watkinsville, Ga., and Lamar (Laurenette) Cain, of Ware Shoals, S.C.;Funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Dr. Darrell Craft, of Hattisburg, Miss. is officiating. Burial will follow in the Blakely Cemetery.Serving as Pallbearers will be his nephews, Lowell McNell, Benny Fields, Bob Cain, Buddy Cain, Randy Cain, and his Sunday School Teacher, Julian Waters.The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from noon to 1 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at First Baptist Church, Winder, Ga.
