Sue Harrington

LaFAYETTE Sue Hagins Harrington, 83, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.She is now with her beloved husband, Harry Harrington with whom she was married to for 36 years. She was born in Statesboro, Ga., on April 23, 1929 to William and Julia DeLoach Hagins. She and her husband, Harry moved to LaFayette, Ga., in 1964 where they began the LaFayette Recreation Department and served the community for many years. She is most known for teaching swimming lessons for more than 50 years and was respected for her kindness and ability to communicate with children. Her beloved passion for recreation started with the City of Statesboro and the JEA of Savannah, Ga. She was a 1947 graduate of Statesboro High School where she was an All State Basketball Guard, high jumped in track and a cheerleader. She attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. She grew up with 5 older athletic brothers.Survived by a daughter, Patti (C.B.) Brown, Knoxville; son, Reed (Tammy) Harrington; grandchildren, Drennan Reid Harrington, Chris Edge, Hub Brown, Hannah Damron; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. Service conducted by Rev. R.V. Wells.Pallbearers are Ted Harris, Scott Underwood, Clay Tracy, Paul Careathers, Jeff Potts, Steve Hampton, Ronald Underwood, David Smith.Interment in LaFayette Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.Arrangements by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.
