Bettye Alexander

FORT OGLETHORPE Bettye Jean Axmacher Alexander, 87, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012.She was a lifelong resident of Fort Oglethorpe and was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church, Rossville. Bettye helped her husband, Bill Alexander as owner/operator of Hemlock Pharmacy on Main St., Chattanooga, for many years and was a lifelong member of VFW Post #3679 Ladies Auxiliary.Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Alexander; parents, Earl Ace and Mildred Marie Gray Axmacher; children, William "Billy" Alexander, James "Jim" Alexander and David Alexander; and brother, Earl Axmacher Jr.She is survived by her daughter, Janet M. (Jim) Nance of Chickamauga; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Dwight Deal and Brother Lee Griggs officiating.Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. today, all day on Sunday and prior to the service on Monday.Arrangements by W.L.
