LB McMillan

L.B. "Red" McMillan, 91, of Ooltewah, passed away Monday Dec. 24, 2012. He has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 67 years and was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Marie Green McMillan and five brothers and sisters. He was a veteran of W.W. II and Korea, serving in the U.S. Navy as an Electricians Mate 1st Class and later in the Navy Reserve. He retired in 1986 from AT&T with 40 years of service working with power and Central Office Toll equipment and was active in the Communications Workers of America and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Red was known as the neighborhood fix it man, working on everything from air conditioners to water heaters. Survivors include four sons, T. Michael McMillan, Memphis, Tenn., J. P. (Pat) McMillan, Harrison, Tenn., Jeffery McMillan and Joe McMillan, both of Ooltewah; special niece Donnie King, Atlanta; sister-in-law, Dr. E. Ruth Green, Statesboro, Ga. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Russ Fairbanks officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross at redcross.org. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
