Donnie HolbrookDonald Lee "Donnie" Holbrook, 52, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, from injuries sustained in a plane crash.A longtime resident of Chattanooga, Donnie was owner of Holbrook Performance Inc. since 1992. He was an avid drag racer and a member of the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) and traveled the world as a goodwill ambassador for the NHRA and touring with Top Fuel Dragsters. He was a national record holder in the drag racing industry and mentored many in the industry. He was a sponsor for the National Championship of Alcohol Funnycar.An avid pilot, Donnie was a member of the National Pilots Association and had obtained five certified licenses.He was also a private investigator and avidly enjoyed four wheeling, dirt biking and guns. He was a member of the Baptist faithHe was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Annette Joyce; grandparents, Hugh and Mary Holbrook, Luther Baughn; and his mother-in-law, Mae Martin.He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and grandfather.He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Holbrook; mother, Pauline Holbrook (Wayne) Kelly; father, Marion Holbrook, both of Fort Oglethorpe; brothers, Greg Holbrook, Cleveland, Tenn., and Steve (Patricia) Holbrook, Kennesaw, Ga.; grandson, Tyler Joyce; grandmother, Nina Baughn, Chattanooga; three nieces, several aunts, uncles and cousins.A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. T.D.
