Lane Griggs

Dr. Lane GriggsADAIRSVILLE Lane Brooks Griggs, M.D. died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Emory Hospital from complications associated with surgery to repair his damaged heart. He was 54 years old.Lane was born on May 9, 1958 in Columbus, Ga., to Brooks and Nina Griggs. Lane received a bachelors degree from the University of Georgia and completed his medical training at Tulane University in 1984 on a naval scholarship! He married Dana Frazier in 1984 at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The couple moved to San Diego, Calif., where Lane completed his internship and residency at the Naval Medical Center in 1989.Lane was a 1976 graduate of Columbus High School often said to be a friend to everyone he ever met. Lane was a member of the debate team and played both flute and saxophone with a passion for music that he carried throughout his life. Destined to become a doctor he and his friends performed mock surgeries together. Even as a teenager he showed a compassion for women's health and wellbeing that paved the road for his career in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Lane had a real zest for life, enjoying nature and the company of good friends. He loved jazz music, sports cars, photography, gourmet cooking, golf and scuba diving. Lane was a medical doctor, board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology who specialized in Infertility and Family Planning. His philosophy was to provide his patients with individual attention and less invasive options for their treatment. He strived to let his patients know they were not alone through sometimes life threatening procedures, always showing them the utmost kindness.He is survived by his two children, Kayla and Tyler Griggs, and former wife, Dana, of Chattanooga; his father, Robert Brooks Griggs, of Decatur, Ga.; his sister, Gloria Ann Griggs, of Braselton, Ga.; a niece, Ridley Griggs; and her mother, Jenny, both of Cornelia, Ga.; and his life partner, Becky Crews Fried.Lane was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Hester Griggs, of Cornelia, Ga.; and his mother, Nina Mae Hester.A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday at A.S. Turner & Sons located at 2273 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033, Phone 404-292-1551. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Heart Association (www.Heart.org).
