Donnie Matthews

JASPER Donal "Donnie" Matthews, 83, went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Carolyn on Monday, July 23, 2012.Donnie served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 and was a well-known retired portrait frame artist. He was a courageous fighter with a wonderful sense of humor with lots of love to give. A lifelong resident of Jasper, he was of the Baptist faith and worked for many years as a manager at J.B. Lamb building supply store.The son of the late James Lowry and Georgia McNabb Matthews, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Bible Matthews; and brothers, Clifford (Marie), Grover, Paul and Mack Matthews; nephew, Buddy Higdon; brother-in-law, Raymond Higdon; and mother-in-law, Velma Wade Bible.Those left to cherish his many memories include several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Betty Matthews; special niece, Lisa Willis (Brandi Delgado and Blake Shadrick); special friend, Elijah Sisemore (Angie and Clay); special caregivers that took excellent care of him, Carol Kilgore, Kimberly Cash and family.Funeral services will be conducted from the Jasper Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home at 10 a.m. CDT on Thursday, July 26, 2012, with the Rev. Mike Teague officiating.
