Betsey Farley

Betsey Steffner Farley, 86, of Lookout Valley, died June 10, 2012 following a lengthy illness.Mrs. Farley was preceded in death by her first husband of 47 years, Dr. Sam O. Steffner; parents, Lee L. and Adrin M. Ryerson; sister, Nina R. Potts, brother, Lee L. Ryerson, Jr.; and great-nephew, Stephen l. Runyan, Jr.Betsey was a graduate of Central High School and attended Asbury College. She and Dr. Steffner owned and operated Lookout Valley Drugs for 20 years and were known for their kindness and generosity toward their patrons. During this time, she was very active in the Wauhatchie United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and serving as treasurer and part-time organist.After Dr. Steffner's health forced them to retire from the drug store, they bought land bordering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and developed the "Parkline Heights" subdivision. Many of their friends and family purchased lots and built homes in the subdivision. Betsey loved the mountains and spent much of her time there for many years.Betsey later married Dr. Robert R. Farley in 1994. They made a home in the Brainerd area and continued to enjoy a wide circle of friends. She was a former member of East Ridge Baptist Church and a member of the "Go-Getters" Sunday School class prior to moving back to the Lookout Valley community.Betsey is survived by her husband, Robert R. Farley; step-daughter, Kathy (Mathieu) Watkins- Sylva; two nieces, Adrin (Tom) Myers and Deborah (Steve) Runyan and their families; and extended family from the Steffner and Farley families.The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Rev.
