Quillian Dowdy

Quillian Dowdy, 84, a resident of Crown Point, Ind., and previously from Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.He was born on Oct. 19, 1927, in Arnoldsville, Ga., the son of Pledger Daniel and Irene Dowdy. Quillian proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Ella Low Scott on Aug. 12, 1949, in Oglethorpe, Ga.Quillian worked as a welder for Rockwell International for over 35 years in Chattanooga. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a joke and make people laugh. His greatest joy was sitting on the porch with friends.Quillian is survived by his loving family; daughters, Nancy Gordon, Richton Park, Ill., Patricia Dowdy, Richton Park, Ill., Quilla (David) Young, Crown Point, Ind., and Undra Hinton, Chattanooga; sons, Raymond Dowdy, Chicago, Ill., Quillian Jordan, Chattanooga, Darryl Jordan, Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; cousin, Selomia Hunter, Athens, Ga.; cousin, Betty Thomas, Chattanooga; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving family and dear friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ella Dowdy; his son, Napoleon Dowdy; and his sister, Drucilia Hill.A visitation for Quillian Dowdy will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St., Winfield/Crown Point, Ind., with a funeral service at noon on Wednesday.Cremation to follow.For further information please call Rees Funeral Home at 219-661-2600 or online at www.reesfuneralhomes.com.
