Catherine Stiles

CHICKAMAUGA Catherine Davis Stiles, 70, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, in a local hospital.Mrs. Stiles was born on Nov. 16, 1941 to the late Leroy Webb Davis II and Dorothy Wilson Davis in Norfolk, Va. She was the oldest Davis grandchild of 27. She lived the first few years of her life with her grandmother during World War II and at that time she developed her love of cats. She was a 1960 graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Va., and she attended Elon College in North Carolina. Several years after college one of Mrs. Stiles good friends encouraged her to move to Atlanta to find a husband. A couple of months later she met her "Prince Charming" while playing tennis at a city park in Atlanta. Catherine and Bob "Stiles" married on Aug. 23, 1969, moved to North Georgia, and purchased Flegal Insurance in 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Stiles built their home in Chickamauga in 1978 where they have lived ever since. Chickamauga offered the small community that she loved. Her home was her sanctuary and a place to live, raise her family, and all of her pets. This was a very special place along with her grandmother's farm in Gordonsville, Va., called the Happy Creek Farms.She attended many events at Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church, was a longtime member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, and was currently a member of the Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe. She was very involved in the Chickamauga Community with the Chickamauga Women's Club and the Chickamauga Library, both having a special place in her heart. She was an officer and director for Atlantic Dominion Distributors, Hoffman Beverage Co., and S&K Sales Co. Mrs. Stiles was well known for her zany sense of humor and her Halloween parties. She was also a compassionate, kind, and generous lady who had a willing spirit to help anyone in need. Her passions in life were her family, special afternoons with her grandsons, friends, games and pranks.She was preceded in death by her brother, Leroy W. Davis III.Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Robert David Stiles Sr.; three children, Robert David (Cary) Stiles Jr., of Chickamauga, Wilson Webb (Chrissy) Stiles Sr., of Fort Oglethorpe, and Laura Stiles (Todd) Eldridge, of Chickamauga; sister, Robin Davis (Richard) Ray, of Virginia Beach, Va.; her five beloved grandsons "five guys", Ryan Eldridge, Reece Eldridge, Davis Eldridge, Robert D. "Tripp" Stiles III and Wilson "Webb" Stiles Jr.; niece, Katherine McGuire (Aaron) Hines; great-niece, Merideth McGuire Hines; and special friend, Peggy Ball and her daughter, Sheena English.Please share your expressions of sympathy at www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Parkinsons Research Foundation at P.O. The interment will be in Chickamauga City Cemetery.A public visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Church of Nativity Episcopal Church located at 1201 Cross St., Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742.A public Celebration of Life will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Walker County Civic Center.Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
