Myrl Ross

God answered prayer. The Rev. Myrl C. Ross, of Soddy-Daisy, was called from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 17, 2012.Myrl was born on Dec. 25, 1932. He shared his birthday with his Savior and his mother.Myrl was the son of Gilbert Ross and Effie Ross of Bradford, Pa. He grew up in the cities of Cuba and Friendship, N.Y.He was an avid boy scout. In high school he was a member of the band and played both baseball and football.In 1950 he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Mississippi during the Korean War. After almost four years of service he was honorably discharged. Shortly thereafter Myrl came to saving faith in Jesus Christ. He was a changed man and God called him in the Gospel Ministry. He received Graduate of Theology and Bachelor of Bible degrees from Tennessee Temple. While serving as chaplain and assistant superintendent of the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Home, with Ralph Bradbury.Myrl was the director of Child Evangelism Fellowship Ministry of Ashland, Morrow and Oakland Counties of Mansfield, Ohio. Traveling the highways to campgrounds, fairs and parks with his Chapel on wheels - he led many to find Jesus as Savior.God lead Myrl to pastor churches in Peoria, Ill., Marshall, Mich., and Lorain, Ohio and the ministries were blessed by God.In 1977 he returned to Chattanooga and counted it a privilege to serve as Home Missions Church Planter with Baptist International Missions. He was used by the Lord to start numerous churches in the Northeast. He traveled mostly by car and never complained as he made lasting friendships and saw people come to know Christ Jesus as Savior.God blessed Myrl with a beautiful high tenor voice and as he traveled conducting vacation bible schools, youth camps, revivals, he was able to include musical concerts in his ministry. Myrl enjoyed the fellowship of Gods people and held memberships in the following churches, Highland Park Baptist Church, Mile Straight Baptist Church, Lupton Drive Baptist Church, and presently at Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank.Myrl was a faithful, compassionate, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A loyal friend, as he touched many lives with his humble spirit. He was used by God to bring many souls to Christ and that was what he desired - to be a soul winner for his Savior.Preceding him in death was his father, Gilbert Ross; mother, Effie Ross; brother, Dale Ross and wife, Dorothy Ross; sister, Shirley Breage and husband, Ernie Breage and grandparents, Ross and Dixon. Cherishing his memory and his unselfish love for them are survivors, his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Ruth Ross; son, Timothy Ross, of Chattanooga; daughter, Deborah Smith, of Soddy-Daisy; six grandchildren, Shawn Sanders, Zachary Sanders, Chandler Ross, Michael Ross, Austin Smith, P.F.C. Michael Smith and great-granddaughter, Shylah Sanders. Special family and friends, Marie Ross, Jennifer Williams and children, Alexia and Kaleb, Lyle Sanders, Darin Smith, Rev. and Mrs. Grant Richison, Kathy Tims, Rev. Milton Kerley (deceased), The Cahill family, The Oettinger Family, Chuck and Kathy Owens, a host of loving in-laws The Scalzi and Raimondo families; beloved brother, Gilbert (Mary Anne) Ross, of Pennsylvania; special niece and nephew, Barbara and Rev. Ray Williams and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.A service to celebrate the life of Myrl will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Martin, Rev. Ray Williams and Dr. John Bailes officiating.Interment will follow with military honors in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Fellow B.I.M.I. Missionaries will serve as pallbearers. His six grandchildren and great-granddaughter will serve as honorary pallbearers.The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today at Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, 5201 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415.The family would like to sincerely thank Marie Ross for her continuing love and care of Myrl. He knew and was confident that his lifes Bible verse Nahum 1:7 was true. The Lord is Good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.
