Doris Chandler

LaFAYETTE, Ga. Doris Pickard Chandler, passed away unexpectedly at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., surrounded by family and friends.She was born Oct. 14, 1934 in the Corinth Community of Walker County, Ga., to Guy Wesley Pickard and Ruby Lee Scott Pickard. She was a 1953 graduate of LaFayette High School and received an Associates Degree in Business from McKenzie Business College in Chattanooga, Tennessee.She was retired from the Walker County Department of Family and Children Services as a Caseworker Supervisor and Assistant to the Director.She was a dedicated member for more thank fifty years of the LaFayette First Baptist Church. During those years she was also actively involved in the Cheerful Doers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Chandler was a trusted and devoted friend who could always be counted on to help others in their time of need.She was also active in the LaFayette Crochet Club and regularly attended her neighborhood circle meetings.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don Alton Chandler; and her younger brother Ray Wesley Pickard.Survivors include son Don Edward Chandler; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Way Chandler; son, Douglas Vincent Chandler; daughter-in-law, Dyan Rayburn Chandler; and granddaughters Lily Alton Chandler and Emma Scott Chandler, all of Atlanta, Ga.; Sister-in-law, Edith Shaver Pickard, of Calhoun, Ga.; and niece LaRae Pickard Furlong, of Boise, ID.; sister-in-law, Collette Chandler, of Lilburn, Ga.; and nieces, Celeste Chandler, of Dunwoody, Ga., and Carol Chandler Wood, of Grayson, Ga.; Sister-in-law, Beatrice Chandler, of Rock Spring, Ga.; Goddaughters, Marie Wallis Ivey and Pamela Wallis Chapman, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette, Georgia.Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church in LaFayette on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. Service conducted by Dr. Warren Morehead and Dr. Todd Gaddis. Interment in LaFayette Memory Gardens officiated by Dr. Warren Morehead.Pallbearers are Mr. Ray Mayfield, Dr. Dale Evans, Mr. Steve Wood, Mr. Rex Jackson, Mr. Jerry Wilhelm and Mr. Glenn Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Criston Clark, Mr. James Ingram, The Honorable Ralph Hill, Mr. Elder Glenn, Mr. Arnold White, Mr. Bo Benton, Mr. Steve Ezell, Dr. Richard Smith, Dr. Ted Scoggins, The Cheerful Doers Sunday School Class and LaFayette Crochet Club.In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund Music Room of the First Baptist Church of LaFayette, 201 North Main Street, LaFayette, Georgia 30728.
