George Humphrey

George William "Bill" Humphrey, of Hixson, died on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012.Originally from Detroit, Mich., George served four years in the U.S. Navy. Following military service, George matriculated to Michigan State University earning a B.S. in electrical engineering, and began a long, prosperous career with Square D Co.In 1957 George married Rosalyn Jengo. The couple adopted two children, William in 1963 and Kathryn in 1965. Strong believers in the value of education, George and Rosalyn were proud when both their children earned degrees and were "off the payroll!"Retiring from Square D in 1989, George and Rosalyn enjoyed nearly 20 years of good health and prosperous retirement, travelling, boating and playing bridge with friends and neighbors. An excellent craftsman, George enjoyed making furniture for family and friends in his basement shop.George William Humphrey built a happy, prosperous life for his family. He was known for his easy disposition, ready wit, and willingness to share laughter, even at his own expense.Fondly remembered by many close friends and family, he is survived by his wife, Rosalyn, and their two adult children, William (Jeanne) Humphrey and their four children, (Kennedy, Mark, Dan and Becky), and Katie Cain and her son, Ben; sister and brother-in-law, Lew and Nina Lane; and several nieces and nephews, all from Michigan.A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Father Charles Burton officiating.Inurnment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
