Ishmael Wright

Ishmael "Ish" Worth Wright, 86, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.He was born in Flat Rock, Ala., to the late Barbara Ann and James Driscoll Wright.Ishmael was the youngest of 12 children. He served our country during World War II serving in the U. S. Army, stationed in Okinawa and was part of the planned invasion forces. Ish retired from the Electric Power Board with over 37 years of service and was a member of the IBEW Local for over 60 years. He was an active member for over 60 years at Oakwood Baptist Church. Ish was a volunteer with the local Veterans Administration, member of the Memorial Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise group where he was known as the "Godfather" and the Harrison Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jeannine Wright; a granddaughter, Valerie Lauren Wright; and his 11 siblings.Ishmael is survived by his children, Louis S. (Billie) Wright and Sherri Wright; grandchildren, Julie Wright-Carlson and Christy Wright and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Wright-Carlson; several nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 2, and 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the North Chapel.A Celebration of Life Service for Ishmael will be held at noon on Wednesday at the North Chapel with Pastor Ken Clark officiating.Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ishmaels name to Oakwood Baptist Church, 4501 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
