Art Wulforst

Arthur "Art" David Wulforst, 63, of Signal Mountain, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.Born June 19, 1949, in Camden, N.J. to Harry David Wulforst and Marjorie Gilbert Wulforst, Art was a proud member of the Cape May Beach Patrol in his youth. Art liked to say that he was "a Yankee by birth and a Southerner by choice," coming to Tennessee to attend UT, Knoxville graduating in 1972 with a bachelor's degree. At UT, Art was on the Vols football practice squad, boxed and engaged in his lifelong love of snake hunting. He graduated Memphis State in 1977 with a JD and began private practice as a trial lawyer in Chattanooga. Art overcame a traumatic injury in 1984, outliving his doctors predictions by 28 years and later joined the Chattanooga office of the State of Tennessee District Attorney's office, where he had many friends. Art made friends everywhere he went and loved the mountains of Tennessee, his church family at Signal Mountain Bible Church and his wife of 30 years, Maggie. Art is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie, of Signal Mountain; his stepson Jim (Bobbie) Pilkington, of Rossville; stepgrandchildren Rachel and Colllin; his father, Harry David Wulforst, of Valley Forge, Pa.; his sister, Katherine Wulforst of New Jersey; his brother, Stephen (Beverly) Wulforst, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; and nephews, Nicholas and Alex; his aunts: Daphne Rilling of Atlanta, Sandra Gilbert, of Cape May, N.J. and Elinore Cruise, of Thomas River, N.J.; his special friends, Jay and Donna Sizemore, of Plant City, FL and Norman and Pam Smith, of Cape May, N.J.; and his lifelong friends, Phil and Diane Burns, of Rhinelander, Wis.Art was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Gilbert Wulforst; his grandparents, Henry Jay and Grace Wulforst, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Arthur and Daphne Gilbert, of Cape May, N.J.Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Signal Mountain Bible Church.
