Frank Cofer

Coach B. Frank Cofer, 93, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Manorhouse Assisted Living. He was born to Laura Bell Crawley Cofer and William Franklin Cofer on July 3, 1919 in Sale Creek, Tenn. Frank's parents died at an early age so he spent four years in an orphanage. He was one of six boys, including Cletus, Willard, John, Glen, and Arnold who all preceded him in death. His wife of 68 years, Ann W. Cofer, and son, William David also preceded him in death. He was of the Presbyterian faith, and was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII. Frank began his teaching /coaching career at Lakeview in 1948. From there, he went to Soddy-Daisy in 1950 coaching football and baseball for 16 years. In 1967, he became head football coach at Red Bank High School. After retiring from coaching in 1972, he served as Assistant Principle at Soddy-Daisy and Central High Schools before his full time retirement. He is survived by his son, Dr. James F. Cofer (Sylvia); grandson, James Franklin Cofer, Jr. (Heidi); and great-grandson, James Franklin Cofer, III; great-granddaughter, Keatyn Lynn Cofer.The family would like to thank Manorhouse and Hospice of Chattanooga, and especially caregivers Janie and Kim for their loving care. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 8, in the funeral home chapel with the Honorable Clarence Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow in Buttram Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. (the time of service) at the funeral home.
